Benjamin Mendy's Legal Challenge: Former Manchester City Star Pursues Employment Tribunal Action

"Benjamin Mendy Launches Employment Tribunal Action Against Manchester City Over Alleged Unauthorised Wage Deductions

Former Manchester City player, Benjamin Mendy, is set to take legal action against his ex-club, claiming millions in unpaid wages due to alleged unauthorized deductions. The 29-year-old French full-back, who departed City at the conclusion of his contract this summer, faced and was subsequently acquitted of rape and attempted rape charges.

Mendy contends that City ceased his payments in September 2021, following his initial charges and subsequent custody. Leading UK sports lawyer, Nick De Marco, is representing Mendy in what has been described as a 'multi-million pound claim.' The case is slated for a 2024 hearing.

Having joined Ligue 1 club Lorient at the beginning of the current season, Mendy has made three substitute appearances for the French side. His tenure at City, initiated by a £52 million deal from Monaco in 2017, saw him contribute to three Premier League titles in 2018, 2019, and 2021. His final City appearance transpired in the Premier League on August 15, 2021.

Mendy spent five months in custody before being granted bail in January 2022, subsequently facing trial for the first time in August 2022. In January, he was acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Further, he was cleared of rape and attempted rape charges in July following a retrial.

Manchester City has yet to comment on the matter when approached by BBC Sport."
